The Home Office’s Department of Youth Services has graduated 500 young people in certificate courses

By Aaron Humes: 520 young people filled the gymnasium at St. John’s College this morning for a joint graduation ceremony hosted by the Departments of Youth, Sports and Transport and Home Affairs and New Growth Industries.
Over the past few months, they have participated in various training courses and certification courses initiated by the Department of Youth Services aimed at increasing the knowledge of young people, enhancing their job opportunities, success in entrepreneurship and decision-making in their daily lives. . In addition, these courses will have a positive impact on skills development and arouse the interest of young people, allowing them to better understand their potential, which can lead to more opportunities.
Two courses were organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and New Growth Industries, through the Leadership Intervention Unit. Organized under the theme “Schooling for at-risk youth”, the programs focused on enrolling at-risk youth in educational activities to provide academic improvement in areas such as basic math, English and financial literacy.
Other course offerings included customer service, graphic design and other youth development courses at the National Youth Training Institute, based on the Youth Needs Assessment Survey of 2022 recently conducted.
DYS and the Department of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries say they will continue to collaborate to use strategies that will engage young people in capacity building programs to help them gain the skills needed to reach their full potential to become productive and responsible citizens of Belize. .
